On this day in 1968, we played the Hollywood Bowl! Outdoor venues were always tricky - no walls, no bounce-back, just a big open space where you couldn’t hear yourself. Vince, our ever-passionate road manager, wasn’t taking any chances. He rigged up fifty-two speakers and 7,000 watts of power… for four guys. We were loud.

Remembering Jim today. He wasn’t just our frontman - he was a poet, a provocateur, and a seeker. There was a wild wisdom in him, something untamed and electric that still echoes through every note we played together. We were brothers in rhythm and chaos. And in the silence after the song ends, I still hear him. Photo courtesy of Getty Images.

June 1967. The Scene, New York City. While Monterey was busy with peace, love, and LSD, we were holed up in a dark little club called The Scene - sweaty walls, low ceilings, and raw energy. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was real. We weren’t invited to the West Coast love-in, and maybe that’s because we didn’t fit the script. Photos courtesy of Getty Images.

A great thrill for me was playing Good Vibrations with the LA Philharmonic at Walt Disney Hall. Chris Martin (Coldplay) was down front singing, Maestro Gustavo Dudamel was conducting, and behind me were 150 members of the LA Master Chorale singing, ‘Ooo... bop, bop, good vibrations.’ It was goose-bump time. RIP Mr. Wilson.
Here’s a clip from my chat with @officialrobbykrieger and @rickbeato1, talking about studio sessions back in the day, when everything was analog, and how headphones were better back then. We got into how we used effects, mic’d things up, and chased the sound that became The Doors. Full interview’s worth a watch. Check it out at the link in bio.
